Air Pressure

Explore our growing collection of exhibits that demonstrate different concepts regarding air pressure.

Bottle Rocket

Bottle Rocket

Build up the air pressure in a bottle and watch it launch into space.

This exhibit was designed and built by Brandon Collins for an Eagle Scout project.

Bernoulli Effect
Bernoulli Effect

Play with a beach ball floating in a stream of air while learning about the Bernoulli principle.

Bottle Rocket
Air Cannon

Observe how air moves from a region of high pressure to low pressure.

Fun Fact!

We live at the bottom of an ocean of air. Air pressure is the force exerted on you by the weight of the air molecules. Although air is invisible, it still has weight and takes up space. The earth's atmosphere is pressing against each of us at a force of 14.7 pounds per square inch at sea level. As a matter of fact, the force on 1,000 square centimeters (a little larger than a square foot) is about a ton!
